Oak Ridge High School Senior Portraits

With two locations and multiple outfit changes, I simply have to split Celenia’s senior portrait session into two posts since we got so many amazing photos of her! This is Part 1 of her senior photoshoot shot in the Woodlands, with her first two wardrobe choices. We shot for unique perspectives using architectural framing and different angles, for some truly distinct senior pictures. No cookie cutter senior photos here that look like everyone else at your school.

When we met before her senior session for the Pre Consultation, we went over all her outfits and matched them with the types of locations she felt best suit her own personal style. With her beautiful dark hair and gorgeous skin, she opted for bright pops of colour, bold but still feminine with the twirly skirt and super high heels. Love her fashion sense!  Celenia booked the Senior Luxe session, which includes both hair and make up artist styling, and was perfectly glammed up for her pictures. I only work with the best make up artists, with professional grade products.

Time for an outfit change (Fashion Tip: note she still opted for high heels, which makes your frame longer and leaner and helps with perfect posture!) for a different look. When shooting senior portraits, I really want you to showcase all sides of you and wardrobe is one way we express our personality so I encourage all my high school seniors to bring as many outfits as you can fit into your three hour photoshoot.  It’s all about variety and capturing all those different looks that make you unique.

Got a case of the nerves?

As I’m now booking for the Class of 2015 Senior Portraits (dates in the fall are already going!) the phone is ringing with excited soon-to-be senior girls looking forward to their epic senior photo shoots. Still, it’s not uncommon that  I’ll hear one of my clients confess to being a little nervous and anxious about getting in front of the camera. If you’re a little nervous, don’t worry — you’re not alone! I know it can be a little nerve wracking with a camera lens pointed at you, and you’re worried that you won’t know what to do. “How will I pose? Am I going to look awkward?” might be going through your head right now and the shoot is still months away!

You can stop worrying right now. We’re going to meet before the session. I’m going to get to know you a little, so you feel comfortable with me and trust me to take amazing photos of you. I don’t click the shutter until I have you in the most beautiful light, at the perfect angle, using the right lens for the shot, and until I’ve made you at ease, or got you laughing naturally. We’ll have fun, you’re going to have a great time! I know just how to get those serene and beautiful shots naturally, so your “poses” don’t look fake or canned.

So take a deep breath and relax – you’re going to be fabulous!

Digital Gallery: Care and Storage – Spring TX Portraits

We live in the digital age, and it makes sense that you want to have your favourite images from your senior, maternity, engagement or family portrait session kept safe and stored for future generations.   Now that you have your digital gallery, here are some important ways you can store and protect them.

how-to-store-digital-files-senior-photography

BACK UP TO AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

As the long forgotten floppy disc taught us, formats change over the years. Some computers don’t even support DVDs anymore, so it’s important to move your digital files onto an external hard drive so they can be copied directly onto new technology.  These hard drives can be purchased anywhere and plug into your computer with a USB cord. Simply transfer the images with a simple copy and paste to the external hard drive for safekeeping.

BACK UP TO A USB

Small thumb drives should be large enough to hold your entire gallery, and are an economical way to back up your digital images. It’s always a good idea to have your images stored on several devices. You can even store one copy off site or in a fire proof box.

ON THE CLOUD

Putting your files and documents onto “the cloud” means that they are not stored on physical hardware but rather online through a host. There are several free options, but they offer limited storage space. Typically you would purchase a yearly subscription for the host to store your images. This is a great option, since they are safe in the event of physical damage to your DVD or external hard drive.

PRINT AND PRESERVE

While digital images are great for sharing and having a back up copy, I will always recommend printing your images so you have a lasting version of your favourite photos. These can be stored anywhere and put out for display to see every day.

DOUBLE UP

No matter how you choose to protect your precious photos, make sure to double up on the back ups. I use not one, not two, but THREE external hard drives to store my photos,  and back them up on the cloud as well.
I simply cannot risk them getting lost due to a technical glitch or corrupted drive. Happy storing!

Class of 2015 Senior Portraits Updated Collections

Welcome Class of 2015 to your senior portrait experience! What’s all new for the Class of 2015?  Lots of exciting stuff!

Seniors have TWO sessions to choose from: The Luxe Senior Session for $250 which includes a professional make up artist AND hair styling, and the Vogue Senior Session for $200 which includes the make up artist. Seniors will be able to purchase prints separately at a discounted rate after their session, so I now include more boutique products in the Collections! This means you get the digitals you want for sharing with friends and Instagram collages, while your parents get the proofbooks and albums as keepsakes – everyone is happy! You still get a print credit, since I believe my clients should have the right to decide which products fit them best. So whether it’s custom designed announcements or signing boards for graduation, the choice is yours.  Why settle for pre-made cookie cutter packages that tell you which sizes and prints you have to choose? With my Premium Collections, you’ll get all the important products you are looking for and the freedom to decide how to share and display your favourite senior photos.

I’m now booking for the Class of 2015 senior portraits for high school students in the Woodlands, Spring, Tomball, Oak Ridge and Tomball areas. Click here to view my portfolio. If you’re ready to learn more about booking a senior portrait session, click here to email me directly.

Top 10 Things to Bring to Your Senior Session

It’s Fashion Friday! If you’re planning your senior portrait session, here are the TOP TEN essentials you won’t want to forget for your photo shoot!

top ten things to bring to your senior session with fashion and make up tips

1) One casual outfit that reflects your own twist on the season’s hottest trends.
2) Extra hair clips to hold back strays.
3) A bag to stash your wallet, keys, cell phone and water while we walk around location.  Also works as a prop!
4) Something that helps tell the story of you. Are you a musician? A painter or writer?
5) A super glam outfit that shows your fierce and sassy side. Choose a vibrant colour.
6) High heels or wedges. These are very flattering for all body shapes and help straighten your posture when posing.
7) Flats for walking around location. You’ll be glad two hours into the shoot when we’re strolling through a field!
8) All your favourite accessories, whether girly and glittery, soft and boho, sporty or urban chic. The more you incorporate into your senior photo session, the better variety you’ll have in your final gallery!
9) Powder (with a compact mirror) and gloss for touch ups.
10) Your cheerleading or band uniform, sports jersey, letterman jacket or any other outfit that reflects your hobbies and activities.

There you are! The most important of the essentials you’ll need to rock your senior shoot!

This senior photography session in the Woodlands started a little urban, then moved to greener spaces for variety along with the outfit changes. Senior portrait clients can change as many times as they can fit into their 3 hour session, so we mix it up! This senior girl has such a beautiful classic look, with a bit of spunk, I just love how her gallery had so many different looks while still being totally *her*. So fun to meet you Miss D!

Senior Portraits ~ The Woodlands and Spring TX Senior Photographer

One of the things I love about senior photography sessions is all the different looks we can get from one senior portrait photoshoot. My sessions with seniors last up to three hours in two location, with multiple outfit changes, and I encourage clients to bring all their fun accessories, jewelry, hats, scarves, funky boots — anything that can personalize the session and make it unique to each senior.

This session was all Texan! Cowboy boots, bluebonnets, red white and blue, and of course a gorgeous girl, all the things TX is known for.

Miss G ~ The Woodlands Senior Photography

I had a great time with Miss G at her senior photoshoot! Three outfits, for three totally different looks, and with her gorgeous  colouring the weather was just perfect to catch the sun in her hair and light in her eyes.   I adore simple serene black and white images, and her calm and laid back style made for some beautiful and slightly moody monochrome shots. We got a lot of variety from this senior photo session!

Be You ~ Spring, TX and The Woodlands, TX Senior Photographer

Senior photography is an opportunity to be a little more artistic and creative. I love to create works of art for high school seniors and college students, with images tailored to each individual.  You are unique. Your images should be too.

I look to you
not because I have nowhere else to turn
or to escape what lurks behind me in shadows
but because by seeing you
I see me
