Family of Boys – The Woodlands TX Portrait Photographer

Most families want their family portraits taken in spring or fall, when the weather is nice and temperate, and the flowers are in bloom or the leaves are changing towards beautiful fall colour.  This family flew in to their home town in Spring and the Woodlands for the holidays, and we were a little worried about the cold winter weather for their family portraits in January!  Chilly as it was, the winter light is really light and airy which makes for pretty photos, the sky is clear and blue, and the grass is a natural wheaten shade that looks rustic and country. Overall, it’s a really pretty look for your family photos and I rather like shooting in winter here.

This family with four  handsome boys braved a chilly but beautiful January afternoon for their photography session, and you’d never know they were cold by how natural they look in front of the camera! They struck every pose perfectly and were stylish to boot. Thanks for being such good sports!

Family Reunion The Woodlands Photographer

This family booked a family photography session for their get together around the holidays, on a beautiful crisp winter day full of sunlight and laughter. Since the family was getting together at the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center in the Woodlands, we arranged to have the family photo shoot on the resort grounds, outside by the docks and the gazebo. It was a great location for a family reunion photography session, and they knocked it out of the park with their classy outfits accented with blue.

For family event photography, where several families are getting together, I always make sure to shoot the entire family together and also to break off into small units so each family has a great photo of their own. With grandparents, it’s always great to have special shots of the grandparents with the children as well.

This photoshoot was a little more formal, so we did mostly posed portraits of the family units but I pull the kids away separately to get some shots of each individual in their lovely suits and outfits, all dressed up for picture day!

Family Portraits with a Lifestyle Twist – The Woodlands Photographer

When you’re shooting family portraits with the happiest little toddler, and you catch some of the best laughs,  you can’t help but smile when you see the final portraits! This little guy was so adorable, with the cutest smile and funniest expressions, it was easy to see how his parents were so laid back and relaxed for their family session. We were able to get some amazing shots of their family connection, for more of a lifestyle feel, which is harder to do with little ones who tend to shy away and take a while to come out of their shells. Not this little guy! He was grinning from ear to ear and ready to give kisses to mom and dad and pose for the camera.  This shoot really made my day!

Large Family Group Portraits in the Woodlands

I met this lovely family close to Christmas, for a family reunion portrait session. I love shooting families who are excited and happy to be back together in the Woodlands area, they always have a great energy. This family was ready for their family portraits with these beautiful cheery red accents and classic black, for a formal but stylishly fun look. The little ones surprised me with how well they posed for the camera! Such a fun family!

The family matriarch contacted me originally in early fall, to make sure her date was booked. I met with her in November, to look over the location near her home and make sure it was suitable for portraits, with sufficient light. I really enjoyed meeting her, and was looking forward to meeting the whole family.

Family Photographer in the Woodlands for Wall Canvases

The K family was definitely one of the most fun and laid back families I’ve had the pleasure to work with this year. What makes each family portrait session unique is the personalities of each family, and the energy they bring to their session, and how I use that to make personalized portraits for each client.

This family was all about having fun and laughter, and just being themselves for their portraits. After a few posed photos, we slowed things down and just let the family laugh and interact, to let their personalities shine through. I was also really happy that they brought the grandparents along for the shoot, and of course the adorable puppy!

This mom went home with six gorgeous large wall canvases to decorate her home with the faces of the ones she loves most. We designed a trio of wall hangings for the common room, with one of the family large in the middle and smaller ones of the boys and the parents on the sides, for a 3D effect.

Then for the playroom, mom chose these beautiful black and white portraits for a classic touch. The boys being boys in the middle, and one of each boy on the sides.

Engagement Photographer in the Woodlands – Fall Portraits

Fall is my absolute favourite time of year, and engagement portraits are one of my favourite types of sessions to shoot! So I’m totally in love with this fall engagement session here in Spring with this soon-to-be-wed couple from the Woodlands, right at peak fall season. Her dress is the most beautiful shade of magenta, a perfect match for the amazing fall foliage we found around the Spring area. Against an almost painterly looking backdrop, this engagement couple look radiant and so happy in love.

When I shoot engagement portraits, I always try to get a variety of poses and expressions so your pictures show all the different sides of you and your relationship. It’s always wonderful to have posed portraits, especially for Save the Date cards, but for wedding slideshows and  storybooks it’s even better to have a set of engagement portraits that show you in more candid moments of laughter and togetherness. Best wishes to this gorgeous couple, may they have a long and happy life together!

Family Photographer in the Woodlands – Classic Portraits

This wonderful family from the Woodlands was such a breeze to photograph for their holiday portraits. Just about everything was perfect for their family session – the weather was gorgeous, the light was right, the fall colours were in full splendor, and this family styled their portraits beautifully. The navy blue is a great hue for shooting family portraits outdoors, and the accents of neutral cream and brown are the perfect match.

For family pictures, we shoot some formals with the entire family together, happy and having fun, for a great canvas or mounted print for the wall portrait. This will be the centre-piece of your home gallery set, on the wall or above the fireplace. Add in some complementary shots of the parents together, and the kids, and you have a fantastic wall cluster of canvases or framed prints.

We’ll also take some fun portraits of the entire family, where they’re a little more lifestyle oriented, or candid. Formal portraits are fantastic for showcasing in the home, but these fun family pictures make great cards,  gifts, or collages and family albums. Kids love to see photos of their family having fun together, and laughing, and you’ll remember years from now how your family laughed together and enjoyed just being together.

Christmas and New Years Sessions in The Woodlands

This family had two series done for their holiday portraits this year! First, the super fun family photos for personal use, and just to have fabulous images from 2104, as they are now. Check out their family portrait series by CLICKING HERE.

Then, for the special images to put on their Christmas cards to send out to family and friends, we shot this series in their holiday outfits (love the red!) for special holiday themed family portraits. With my super quick turn around time, families have more than enough time to put their cards together and mail them out, or to create digital cards for emailing and posting online.

It’s not too late! Personally, with my busy fall season, I rarely get the chance to send out cards in December. So, I send out Happy New Years cards instead, after the busy season is behind me and I have more time. I know you’re busy too! Child Photographer in The Woodlands – Birthday Session

This is sweet little Noah, and his mama contacted me to do a very special shoot to celebrate his third birthday. I offer short one hour “mini shoots” in Spring and the Woodlands for exactly these kind of sessions — to celebrate a milestone or just get a handful of beautiful portraits to remember this moment, this now, and how someone special in your life is at this point in time. Our children change so fast, and keeping an album of yearly pictures or a wall of portraits as they grow up is a great way to capture forever every stage of their life.

This little sweetie and his big blue eyes was full of wonder and giggles. And his blue shirt was the perfect outfit to show off those gorgeous eyes!

Mini Collages for Home and Office Desks – The Woodlands Photography

When it comes to how you’ll display the images from your senior, family, maternity or engagement portrait session, there are a lot of choices out there. I will guide you at your viewing and ordering session, showing you all the fantastic products I offer in person so you can see them close up and feel the superior quality.  From large groupings of wall canvases, to mini albums for portability, you’ll get the products that are right for you.

While large mounted prints and wall art are wonderful for home displays,  you also have some smaller product options so you can take your favourite photos into more personal spaces, like your office desk or bedroom dresser. One of the most perfect ways to size down is to put a few images together in a mini collage. I offer these 5×10 desk collages, mounted on artboard for durability, which can be fit into a frame or beautifully displayed in an easel. I offer several designs to choose from, depending on how many images you want to show off.

Relaxed and Fun Family Portraits in the Woodlands

I get all kinds of families who come to me for their family portraits, and no two families are alike. Some want classic and traditional portraits for the mantle, formal poses and elegant styling. Some want documentary style lifestyle photos of their families at home, to personalize their family sessions and to remember where they were at this time in their lives, as moments are so fleeting. And some, like this family, want to have fun and relaxed candid portraits of their family, mixed with the traditional, to celebrate the relationships we share and the fun we have as a family when we are together.

We will include some traditional family portraits, for sharing with family members (remember — Grandma always really loves that one posed photo of her beloved family together, happy and smiling at the camera, and she’ll be expecting her print!) but then we can skip around, laugh and run, and really get down to the serious business of enjoying this day together making beautiful family portraits that really capture YOU as you truly are. For this family, that was bright, happy and lots of smiles!

The Heart of the Family – The Woodlands Photographer

When you’re preparing to have your family portraits done this year, there’s a lot of questions that may be running through your mind and a lot of details you have to consider. Pulling the wardrobe together. Checking your schedule to make sure the kids don’t have soccer practice the day of the session.  Do you want to have a fun lifestyle session to make into an album, or posed formal family portraits for the wall? You can rest assured I’ll help you through it. We’ll go over all these details in our consultation, so you can be sure that on the day of the family portrait session you’ll be fully confidant that you are prepared and ready for some fun.

You already know you want some special family portraits, of everyone together. You definitely have thought about all the great shots we’ll get of the kids, both individually and together. The heart of the family is you. The parents. You are who your children look up to with love every day for guidance and support. And kids love to see their parents together! This is why I take the time to get some beautiful couple portraits of the two of you together, just like you did for your engagement portraits and your wedding photos. Family Photographer in the Woodlands

I think I met the happiest baby in the world when I shot these extended family portraits this spring! This family came to me for updated family photos, looking for an outdoor location for a bright and happy spring look. We choose a pretty location in the Woodlands to incorporate the spring greenery into their portraits, and we got lucky with such a beautiful day. This family chose a mounted print of the entire family together with their print credit to go with the gift prints with their Premium Collection. One thing that makes their portraits really stand out is the colour harmony they achieved with their outfits.  With various shades of blue and spring green, they complement each other without being too matching.  It can be frustrating when choosing your wardrobe for your family portraits, but I will guide you before the session to make it stress-free.

Happy Family Portraits – The Woodlands Photographer

Woodlands, Spring and Conroe Photographer 2013 in Review

I want to take this opportunity to thank all my fabulous clients from 2013 for making it a really stellar year!! I had the opportunity to meet some amazing families, couples, children and high school seniors  as well as local artists and business people for headshots and I truly enjoyed working with all of you. Thank you for making 2013 a wonderful year, and I look forward to seeing you again, and meeting my new 2014 clients.

Here are the highlights from the year. In 2013 I had two of my images accepted into juried shows, saw my work featured on several fantastic websites devoted to inspirational photography, was honoured to be interviewed for a few online blogs for senior photography and film work, developed dozens of rolls of film,  saw two Ron Burgundy impersonations from hilarious clients, lost countless lens caps, and spotted about a hundred deer in the woods. Pretty good year, in all.

Can’t wait to see what this year brings!

The Woodlands Photography Family Session
